Transportation from the airport
Barcelona airport has two terminals: T1 and T2. Travelling from Terminal 1 rather than Terminal 2 adds an extra 4 km to the journey and takes approximately 5 minutes longer.
Taxi: The journey to the city centre takes from 20 to 30 minutes depending on road conditions. Fare around €30.
Aerobus: The Aerobus is an express bus service linking Barcelona airport and the city centre, with buses normally leaving every 5 to 10 minutes. Tickets for both T1 and T2 cost €5.90 for a single and €10.20 for a return (return ticket valid for 15 days). There is a bus stop in Plaza Catalunya, 500 metres from the Conference venue.
Metro-Underground: L9 metro line connects Barcelona Airport and the city centre. There are two stops at Barcelona airport: Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2. A single ticket is €4.50.
International Time Zone
The time in Spain is CET (Central European time) which is GMT + 1 hour.
Electricity supply
Electricity supply is 220 volts throughout Spain with 2 pin wall sockets. For any European countries that use 240 volts e.g. UK and Ireland most electrical equipment will function adequately.
Climate
Barcelona’s climate is generally moderate and mild. Average March temperatures range from 13°C to 20°C.
Currency & Bank/ATM
The currency used in Spain is the Euro.
Banks and currency exchange offices are located around the city, and “cajeros automáticos” (ATMs) are found in various places throughout Barcelona, including the train stations and airport.
Insurance
Participants are advised to take out their own personal travel and health insurance for their trip.
Language
The language spoken in Barcelona is Spanish and Catalan. The official language of the congress is English. Simultaneous translation will not be provided.
Restaurants
Barcelona and its surrounding areas have become renowned internationally for food and eating. Its location on the Mediterranean coast offers a generous and varied selection of meals.
Barcelona’s eateries range from traditional Catalan restaurants to the luxurious gourmet temple. Typical Catalan food includes Pa amb tomàquet, Sarsuela, Fideua, Calçotada and Crema catalana.
